Connections... First International Services activity

On 29th of august, members from three Rotaract clubs met up in Mumbai. The clubs being those of ours, R.C Deonar (Mumbai) and R.C Kundapura South (Karnataka). This was our first meeting in this avenue, given that it included districts 3131,3140 and 3180 respectively. The interaction was very good and new ideas were exchanged too.
From our club, we gave them a paper bag (one of our earlier projects), club pamphlet and lapel pin. We exchanged our letter head and bulletin with both the clubs. We received a letter head and flag from R.C Deonar and letter head and bulletin from R.C. Kundapura. Also with the Ganpati festival going on, we gifted them modaks and bakarwadis, our specialities from Pune. With this initial activity we are soon going to release a joint bulletin between the three clubs.
The representatives from the clubs were: Rtr. Vinay Acharya (R.C. Kundapura South), President Rtr. Shripad Kulkarni (R.C. Deonar) and PP. Rtr. Amruta Joshi from our club.

Joy Fest….

"Children are the hands by which we take hold of heaven."

After the success of the Ramzan project, our next item on the "to-do" list was the joy fest.
We visited an orphanage for construction worker’s kids where there were roughly about 30 kids between the ages of 3-12. We had an exquisite time, watching a little "Shah Rukh Khan" perform to the tune of "dard-e-disco"
the children there took to us in a fraction of a heart beat.
We also had arranged for a small diya painting activity and a tattoo artist was also called to add on to the fun.
biryani and gulab jamuns were arranged for their lunch.

This experience has been embossed in my memory for eternity. The smiles on the kids faces were extended from ear to ear.
We all clicked pictures with them where each one of the kids got their own 15 seconds of fame!!!
They say "The key to happiness is having dreams. The key to success is making dreams come true.” This is what we tried to accomplish at the joy fest. It couldn't get better than this!

The Ramzan Project...

Ramzan is the Islamic month of fasting, in which participating Muslims refrain from eating, drinking, smoking, and indulging in anything that is in excess or ill-natured; from dawn until sunset.

We at Rotaract decided to undertake a project, where in we donate the basic necessities needed by one during this time. Two rotaractors, Rizwan Khan and I (saba.f.poonawala), undertook the initiative for this project. After the club member’s approval, we visited the priest of the masjid we chose. As per the requirements, we managed to purchase 8 kgs of rice, 7 kgs of wheat and 2 kgs of cooking oil, all of which was in great need by them.

All told the experience was truly unforgettable. The satisfaction one derives from helping another in need, in this case several individuals is exhilarating. i look forward to doing it in the future to my greatest ability.

Online meeting !

Our first online meeting...
Well thanks to the swine flu scare we decided not to give our parents a reason to get more worked up.We had our very first online meeting, attended by 9 members it could be called a successful meeting with a bit of confusion and loads of repeated typo's. Still it was a success as we got two very good project idea's.The leadership project and the unsung hero's project.
We should have an online meeting more often as we were expecting our past president to attend it too.
Hoping to see more members conferencing next meeting. Happy chatting.

Friendship's Day -- Treasure Hunt

Friendship dayyyyy celebration!
On sunday,2nd august we had one of the best meetings ever....It was friendships day and Aanchal and Amruta had organized games like treasure hunt etc and an awesome fellowship as well...one such game which was very apt for this day was passing the wool game...each member had to pass the woolen thread ball to another member n simultaneously say something good about the person...this way a whole spider web was spun amongst the members....this game was very unique because underlying beneath its fun element was a serious message of how strong bonding there is within the club, areas of improvement of relations between members and it also gave everyone a chance to speak their heart out on a day so special as that!
After the game we all enjoyed the treasure hunt, Ritika’s yummy brownies and Saba’s awesome cookies!!
Looking forward to more such meetings!

Treasure Hunt
Friendships Day ! and what better way to celebrate it, while looking out for treasures with each other?? This activity meant for our club members, saw 10 groups, 2 in a group, racing around kalyani nagar looking for hidden clues. Five places were choosen for the route.
All 5 clues were given to them at the same time and they had to pick up something from the place as proof of having been there. Also, they needed to find out the shortest distance to finish visiting them. In all the excitement and frenzy, the winning team turned up to the base location within 20 mins, in the half hour slot given to them. The winners being, Rtr. Niti Shah and Rtr. Ritika Athwani. The prize was 2 movie tickets for the winning team !! The members had a great time and it completely echoed the sentiments of friendship and bonding!!

Know your country/state...

Getting to know more about our incredible country is always fun, especially when members decide to be ambassadors/representatives for the same. we felt the need to understand each others cultures better, hence this interactive session.
The states covered in this session were Kerala, Maharashtra and Rajasthan. Each member - Aditya, Amruta and Minshu respectively spoke about its culture, history, food, clothing, etc. other members also added to it, the facts they knew. We learnt some really nice interesting things about these places.
we hope to include many more such places to increase our knowledge of our land. Fellowship of the states added to the flavor of the activity :)

Computer training for underpriviledged Children

Kids from the Ashray Orphanage were given an opportunity by The Rotaract Club of Pune, Kalyani Nagar, to get Basic training on Computers at Convergys in Aundh. This is a joint program by Microsoft and Convergys, which aims to part basic knowledge in Computers to the underprivileged. 16 children completed the 32 hour course, and more are scheduled for the next batch.
On receiving a feedback from the caretaker, we realized how much the kids loved learning about computers, and we are glad we made this happen for them. Each kid would get a certificate from Microsoft!
